Sam Houston Jones State Park

Sam Houston Jones State Park encompasses 1,087 acres of pine and hardwood forests, with six hiking trails meandering through the park:

  • Cypress Tupelo Trail (0.5 miles) – Red Trail – This trail runs through the middle of the park and features a cypress swamp ecosystem.
  • Old Stagecoach Trail (0.75 miles) – Yellow Trail – This short trail connects with both the Swamp Walk Trail and the Longleaf Pine Trail.
  • Swamp Walk Trail (1.1 miles) – Green Trail – This trail starts at the boat launch and travels upstream along the banks of the river.
  • Riverwalk Trail (1.6 miles) – Orange Trail – This trail runs along the banks of the Calcasieu River and loops around Camp Area 2. Lookout for armadillos and snakes on this trail.
  • Longleaf Pine Trail (3.5 miles) – Blue Trail – This is the longest trail in the park, and it splits halfway into an upper loop and lower loop, both of which are excellent choices for seeing deer, frogs, and other wildlife.
  • Longleaf Pine Extension (1.3 miles) – Purple Trail – As amazing as the Longleaf Pine Trail is, its hard to turn down an extension. This trail isn’t too exciting though and brings you back to the front gate.
